WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item level upgrade upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher item upgrades level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The Item level upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will show an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item level upgrade slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from another set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade items process. For instance, when a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can locate, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
